Grasse - Capitale Mondiale des Parfums

Today my sister Christiane and I went to Grasse, the so called town where perfum was invented and where parts of the Süßkind’s well known “The Perfume” took place (at least that’s what my sister told me as I have not read the book or seen the movie yet). It’s only about half an hour to go there by car and a lovely town with sooo many small and lovely alleyways guiding you through the whole town past historic locations and petit cafés.

As we’ve been to Nice and Monaco the other day and this is our last day in the region of Cannes before going back home this has been a great way to end our “city trips”. We had lunch at a quiet and really friendly cafe in the town centre (the “Moules mediterannes et frites” were deliciuos and at only 9,50€ the cheapest during our travel).

The only time I grasped for air was when a bumblebee deciced to have a look under my shirt and bit me in the arm while I was trying to get it out of there. At least I now know that I’m not allergic to bumblebees. And that bumblebees can do such evil things.

We decided to skip a visit to the factories where perfume is made because we had a look at the process at a museum and were tired from walking around and drinking coffee.

Have a look at the photos we took: Photo set at flickr

We’re going home tomorrow and I have to say that I’m looking forward to it. I’ve had my fun and relaxed a bit - but now it’s back to work and getting things done!

By the way, my cousin Anika is currently doing a 6 month “work and travel” stay “Down Under” and we’ve created a blog for her at anika.bonnlog.de . There’s not much to ready yet but I bet she will be writing a lot during her next weeks and months. Have a read!
