Make it so!

Whooa, this brings back some memories:

I just found out that Wil Wheaton, who is better known to most of us as lively Wesley Crusher on the more or less famous Star Trek - The Next Generation, is an active member of the blogging community and shares a lot of pictures on his Flickr Pro account. This is what I really like about the Web: Connecting people and sharing knowledge. Isn’t it great to read what a guy who was there (I mean at the Star Trek sets and who met Patrick Stewart or Jonathan Frakes) has to say. This is what living in these times makes it so great.

This has really taken me back to looking through my old Star Trek fan stuff and I have to admit - I must have been a geek, boy and couldn’t agree more to him beeing quoted on imdb.com:

“I am a huge geek. And Star Trek was a haven for geeks.” Interview, 2005.

I remember owning at least the toy tricorder, phaser and miniature models of the Enterprise D and a small shuttle (where are these today? I can’t remember I gave them away…) . One could open the top and look at the bridge and play around with Mini-Cpt. Picard and Cmd. Riker. You could even open the doors on that thing. It was amazing!

I think I spent most of my allowance for fan stuff at the local fan store (still a heaven for geeks: the Bonner Comicladen) and was soaking up most of the literature available - I even had the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual” and the at that time quite expensive “Star Trek Encyclopedia” that covered almost every detail one would like to know about Star Trek.

These were really great days for geeks like me and I look back with a smile on my face. Thanks Wil for beaming me back for a second.
